Slovenian ICD fellows gathered for the annual autumn Slovenian subdistrict D14 meeting on 29th September 2025 in Ljubljana. To emphasise the strong connection between ICD values and education and communication among members of the dental society, the official part of the meeting was held at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana.

In the main lecture hall of the Dental Medicine Department, our distinguished fellow Professor Nataša Ihan Hren delivered a lecture entitled “Aesthetic Aspects of Orthognathic Surgery”. Professor Ihan Hren is a leading expert in orthognathic surgery, fully engaged in the surgical treatment of the most complex orthodontic patients. Her lecture highlighted the challenges in achieving successful outcomes in orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery, particularly considering the evolving expectations of new generations, where the aesthetics and functionality of the orofacial system are just one aspect of overall body aesthetics, contributing to the patient’s self-confidence.

During the official part of the meeting, Slovenian D14 Vice-Regent Professor Maja Ovsenik, D14 Past-Regent Professor Tomislav Jukič, and D17 Regent-Elect Dr Rok Jurič addressed 20 Slovenian fellows. Recently inducted fellows Dr Aleksandra Banovič Groznik, Professor Dr Ksenija Cankar, and Dr Mojca Drev were presented to the fellows, who had not attended the Salzburg meeting. In the view of the forthcoming independent Slovenian District D17, which is expected to be officially established on BORM in Munich in the fall of 2025, a discussion on the legal aspects of establishing the ICD Society in accordance with national regulations was held. Fellow Dr Jure Poglajen presented the charity project Earth Medicine at the refugee camp on Lesbos, Greece, where Slovenian ICD fellows were involved. The European Section meeting in Milan in 2026 was announced, and a vigorous debate on candidates to be inducted there concluded the official part of the autumn meeting.

The evening continued with an informal dinner at the Krpan restaurant, where cordial friendship among Slovenian fellows was evident. The good atmosphere, created by the presence of almost all Slovenian fellows and their spouses, provides a strong foundation for the new Slovenian district and supports the commitment of the new Slovenian District D17 leadership to further promote the ICD idea and values among Slovenian dentists.
