From June 12-14, 2008 nearly 300 Fellows, from 5 continents accompanied by their spouses, partners and friends, attended an outstanding and dazzling 53rd Annual Meeting of the European Section of the International College of Dentists in Athens. The event took place under the Presidency of Dr. Aris-Petros Tripodakis. The one-of-a-kind venue combined history with the modern facilities in the Olympic City of Athens. The Scientific Program was intellectually and philosophically stimulating, conveying cutting edge information related to Dentistry as a professional health discipline. The natural beauty of the elegant surroundings enhanced the Social Program, leaving the participants with memories of a living tradition.
The European section was honored by the arrival from Japan of the President of the College Dr. Norinaga Moriyama, and his wife.
In addition, we had the pleasure of welcoming Councilor Dr. Chuck Simmons and his wife Alice, as well as the Editor of USA Section 1, Dr. Richard Galeone and his wife Carolyn.

The Social Program
On Wednesday, Fellows enjoyed a day’s golf at Glyfada Golf Club of Athens. On Thursday, Fellows and guests were entertained with a Welcome Dinner party at the Restaurant “Dionissos” with a magnificent poster-card view of the acropolis. On Friday, the Accompanying Persons’ Tour went in two directions. The first group toured Athens including the major historical sites while others traveled to the beach at the Sounion for a day of sun and relaxation.
In the evening, the entire company was transported to view the sunset in Cape
Sounion from the Temple of Poseidon followed by a Hellenic night: a beach party and authentic Greek dancing at the Cape Sounion Hotel.
Induction Ceremony and Gala Dinner
Saturday afternoon the assembly was witness to a unique Induction Ceremony. Two Masters and 54 new Fellows from across Europe as well as the USA and South Africa were inducted into the College in the Historic Zappion Megaron. An original video presentation prepared by President Tripodakis began the ceremony; and then as each inductee was called to receive their Key and Certificate of Fellowship, personal individual photographs were projected on two large screens. A meticulously prepared and beautifully presented Gala Dinner crowned the evening. The meal was enjoyed under open skies and accompanied by an outstanding, thematically varied choral program.
